Goal

The goal of Program Eight is to introduce students to Zambia's Emmaus Spirituality Centre, a place where young Zambians just out of high school can begin to understand what it means to be a priest serving Zambia's Roman Catholics. Interviews with Lusaka's Fr. Cornelius Hankomoone, S.S. Rector of Emmaus Spirituality Centre, Fr. Bernard Zulu, National Director, Pontifical Mission Societies, Zambia, and others.

Steps

1. Show the internet TV DVD Program Eight: Zambia's Newest Priests

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following:

  • Describe some aspects of training for candidates thinking about becoming priests in Zambia.
  • What do people in charge of training priests in Zambia think are the most important qualities of being a priest in Zambia?
  • What is your favourite comment from Zambia's Church leaders in this video and explain why?
  • What does the Canadian Church need to learn from the Zambian Church?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the work of the Church in Zambia.

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • Roman Catholic Missionary history and its current situation as a growing Church.
  • The Church in Zambia and how its population fits into the overall religious character of the country.
  • Describe how students can help Propagation of the Faith support Catholics and their work in Zambia.
  • Locate Lusaka Archdiocese on a map of Zambia.

In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
