Goal

The goal of Program Two is to introduce students to the work of the Catholic Church in India to help in the struggles of the country's poorest women and children through interviews with Salem Bishop Sebastianappan Singaroyan and others. To better understand how the Indian Catholic Church attempts to reach out to all people, no matter what their faith is.

Steps

1. Show the internet TV DVD Program Two: Women & Children of India

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following:

  • Describe some aspects of being a poor woman in India.
  • What have we learned about the Catholic Church in India
    through this program?
  • How does the Catholic Church try to serve Indian people of
    all religions?
  • How does helping women help their children?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the work of the Church in India.

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • The Church in India and what it is like to be a poor woman in that country.
  • Describe the different faiths that co-exist in India.
  • Describe the status of women there.
  • Describe how students can help Propagation of the Faith support Catholics and their work in India.
  • Locate Bishop Archbishop Singaroyan's Diocese on a map of India.

In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
