Since 1995, the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul, in the company of friends and associates, have led a peaceful,
silent vigil of protest at City Hall, in downtown Kingston, Ontario.

The goal of Program Three is to explain how the vigil started and why it's important to continue.

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following impressions from the video:

  • Why did the Sisters of Providence start the weekly vigil and what is their goal?
  • What types of issues are addressed at the silent vigil?
  • What did you know after viewing the video that you didn't
    know before?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the work of Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul.

  • Cuts made to welfare since 1995.
  • Other ways to demonstrate peaceful protests.
  • Peaceful protests that are held in your community.
  • How Canadian Catholics can support the work of Sisters of Providence.
