Restoring the Earth

“Apostolic farming” is a concept Catherine developed to help the original farmers of Madonna House to see their work in the larger context of the Apostolate and the world. Apostolic farming is built on a reverence for God’s order in nature.

Study Guide

Goal

The goal of Program Seven is to introduce students to Apostolic Farming and how it helps us to be good stewards of the earth in all aspects of life.

Steps

1. Show the video "Program Seven: Restoring the Earth"

2. Ask students to form small groups to answer the following questions:

  • How would you explain the term “Apostolic Farming”?
  • Is Apostolic Farming important in today’s society? Why or why not?
  • Where is St. Benedict's Farm? What happens to those who work there?
  • Where in Madonna House is reverence for the earth seen besides St. Benedict’s?
  • Must you live on a farm to practice apostolic farming? Does this program say anything to you about ecology, recycling, etc.?

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment. Find out more about:

  • Apostolic Farming—see what happens when you Google this term
  • St. Benedict’s Farm (see the MH website)
  • How you and your family and friends practice restoring the earth.
