Goal

The goal of Program Four is to introduce students to the ongoing situation of poverty for many people in Tanzania and how the Church is involved, thanks in part to the support of young Canadians through the Holy Childhood Association.

Steps

1. Show Program Four: Tanzania

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following:

  • Name five facts about Tanzania and its people.
  • How do Canadians help through the Holy Childhood Society?
  • Why does the Church help people who are poor?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the work of the Church in Tanzania.

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • Poverty in Tanzania and what it is like to be poor there.
  • What happens when young people get a better education than their parents can afford.
  • Find out how Canadian Catholics support the work of the Church in Tanzania.
  • Describe how students can help Holy Childhood Association and the Church’s work in Tanzania.
  • Imagine a classroom project that would help the work of Tanzania's Catholic Church.

In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
