Study Guide

Goal

The goal of Program Ten is to introduce students to the ongoing situation of poverty for many people in Uganda and how the Church is involved, thanks in part to the support of young Canadians through the Holy Childhood Association.

Steps

1. Show the internet TV DVD Program Ten: Uganda.

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following:

  • Name five facts about Uganda and its people.
  • How do Canadians help through the Holy Childhood Society?
  • Why does the Church help people who are poor?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the
work of the Church in Uganda.

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

1. Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • Poverty in Uganda and what it is like to be poor there.
  • What happens when young people get a better education than their parents can afford.
  • Find out how Canadian Catholics support the work of the Church in Uganda.
  • Describe how students can help Holy Childhood Association and the Church’s work in Uganda.
  • Imagine a classroom project that would help the work of Uganda's Catholic Church.

2. In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
