Goal

The goal of Program Ten is to introduce students to Our Lady of the Visitation and the work that is done there caring for the sick and elderly.

Steps

1. Show the video "Program Ten: Caring for the Sick and Dying"

2. Ask students to form small groups to answer the following questions:

• What is Our Lady of the Visitation? Why was it given that name?
• What kind of work is done at Our Lady of the Visitation?
• Why is caring for the sick and elderly so important? Can you say anything about the spirit of caring for the sick and elderly?
• What lessons can be learned when caring for the sick and elderly, especially if you are young and healthy?

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment. Find out more about:

• The Church’s teachings on the end of life.
• Palliative care—what it is, how it operates.
• If you have grandparents, or a friend or relative who is disabled, what have you learned from them? How can you and others grow in understanding their lives and the problems they face?
