Program Seven
Defining Family
Fr. Tony Bidgood explains how being a Christian family gives its members a sense of belonging but with a difference: "Jesus suggests that, with him, the bond of a spiritual relationship, guided by hearing his word and acting upon it, can be even more powerful that a familial relationship."

Study Guide
Goal
The goal of Program Seven is to introduce students to the concept of family as parish and/or community family and asks: how do we do God’s will in these larger families?
Steps
1. Show the internet / DVD Program Seven: Defining Family
2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following
..impressions from the program:
- Tell a brief story about a family the talk on this program reminded you of.
- What have we learned about the Catholic Church through understanding more about its teachings on family life?
- What did you know after viewing the DVD that you didn’t know before?
- How do you think a religious community like the Redemptorists is modelled on Christian family values?
3. Option for Take-Home Assignment
1. Via the Internet find more facts about:
- One papal document on family life
- What the Catholic Catechism says about family life
- The Redemptorist community
2. Write one page of personal reflection on how ideas about
Christian family life can help you live your everyday life outside
the family or how you see these ideas operating in the lives of a
religious community like the Redemptorists.
3. In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of
the above.
