World Class: Young people who can change the world debuts on Canadian Learning Television (CLT) 10:00 pm ET Thursday, March 9, 2006 and continues for six weeks through to April 13, 2006. In its pilot phase with these six episodes, the producers aim to make World Class into a 26-part series over the next few years in order to more fully tell the story of young Canadians becoming involved in Third World communities throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America.
World Class builds on the 2001-03 production of 26 episodes of The Global Villagers. Initially broadcast on Vision TV, The Global Villagers explores the motivations, cross cultural learning and partnership experiences of Canadians working in the developing world. From Rwanda to Pakistan, Nicaragua to Thailand, director Steven Deme and his crew have spent almost four years overseas capturing the stories of cooperation and struggle as the people of developing nations work with Canadian non-governmental organizations to improve their lives and the long-term viability of their communities.
Following the critical success of the one-hour biography feature, Olive Dickason's First Nations, Villagers is developing a multi-part Aboriginal history series based on Dickason's pioneering work in Canadian Aboriginal history.
